Artist Portrait Series | Stanislav Groz

Silent Communication Artist Portrait Photography

Stanislav Groz had the pleasure to work with Lenkus in a one on one portrait photography session for her Artist Portrait Series. For “Silent Communication”, the artist submitted oil paintings depicting overly expressive subjects. His artwork In My Opinion, is about an individual who although does not partake in anything, he seems to always have an opinion that needs to be shared. As his expressive eyes critically stare off, we can’t help but wonder what it is that he’s about to comment on. The blotchy composition of the figure contrasts beautifully against the black background, almost as though a light is shining right above him.

“I’m currently working on a series named “Psyche”, which depicts various emotional and psychological states. I’m mostly interested in complex emotions, such as those that one experiences when reminiscing or fantasizing—when one is completely absorbed by oneself, looking into the self, and there is nothing external that can prevent being oneself. At such moments the face becomes sculpturesque, and the colors in which the person sees the world become symbolic.

In my case it was very quick and I didn’t have time to understand anything. This is the way it should be. I’m sure this is the talent of the photographer. It was very comfortable to work with Linnea, I felt myself like who I am.”

Being curator at Linus Galleries and a fine art photographer, has permitted Linnea Lenkus to build a comfortable relationship with participating artists and capture their individuality through her lens. She sets out to encourage artists by being a part of the whole process that comprises showing at our contemporary art gallery. Through portrait photography, Lenkus aims to truly show who these artist are, in addition to their artwork. Lenkus also owns two portrait studio locations in Long Beach and Pasadena.
