Artist Portrait Series | Gabriella Sanchez

Art Show Silent Communication Portraits

Participant of our most recent art show, artist Gabriella Sanchez was selected by Lenkus to also be a part of her Artist Portrait Series. For the “Silent Communication” art exhibit, Sanchez submitted her contemporary photography, revolving around human nature and the role of women in society. Displayed at our Pasadena art gallery, her photograph Staged, shows three representational images of a woman’s lips. The vibrant red mouth goes from being a symbol of sensuality to a more physical state, a stage for which a miniature chair is placed on. The chair represents a symbol of domestic life and the red lips allude to a red curtain rising to commence a performance. Sanchez’ bold photographs explore themes still ever-so-present in our surroundings.

Gabriella is a freelance graphic designer and contemporary visual artist based in Los Angeles, California. Currently, her work focuses on studying human kind and what defines us as such – specifically from the point of view of a woman. Gabriella does this through the repeated incorporation of the human mouth. Using it to represent our superior mental capacities and the extent of our civility in terms of it’s use in complex language and expression of thought. However, also showcasing this iconic human feature as a devouring animalistic organ with implied sensuality that can easily be turned vulgar and aggressive depending on it’s display or use.

“Linus Gallery has been the perfect venue. The staff have been both gracious and helpful. Linnea was kind enough to offer her expert photography skills in taking portraits of the artists. Thanks again Linus!”

-Gabrielle Sanchez

As both curator at Linus Galleries and fine art photographer, Linnea Lenkus understands the importance of getting a message across to viewers. Her collaboration with artists who participate in our shows has enabled her to build a relationship where artists see our gallery as a supportive resource and not only a venue where they’ve shown art. Her specialty in photography is beneficial in getting artists comfortable in front of the camera. Once this relaxing environment is established, Lenkus can reflect the true personality of the artists through portraits. As a seasoned photographer, Lenkus works from both of her portrait studio locations in Pasadena and Long Beach.
