Artist Portrait Series | Greg Stogner

Art Show Silent Communication Artist Portraits

Other than being curator at Linus Galleries, Linnea Lenkus is a highly experienced fine art photographer with two portrait studio locations in Long Beach and Pasadena. As a way to interact at a more personal level with our artists, Lenkus has portrait photography sessions in which they can be themselves in front of the camera. The art shows at our contemporary art gallery are meant to encourage local and international artists by being part of a well-rounded collection of artists and artwork. For our last art show of 2013, “Silent Communication”, Lenkus once again selected another powerful group of artists to show the best of their artwork.

Artist Greg Stogner had the opportunity to be part of this amazing art show, as well as be photographed by Lenkus as part of her Artist Portrait Series. Stogner’s abstract paintings are an expression of his experiences that have brought about such inspiration. His acrylic painting Subterranean View, varies in abstract forms; with deep hues of colors melting into each other, Stogner’s abstraction comes to life by realizing that it is his internal thoughts and ideas that fluidly spread throughout the painting.

Artist Statement:

Abstraction lends itself completely to invention. Each painting is an experiment. I discover what to do next as the painting progresses. I test the idea that a series of processes, minimal planning, and intuition facilitate artistic expression. My studio is a place for evaluating ideas, materials, and techniques – an art laboratory.

My paintings are on canvas or wood panels. The perimeter of a wood panel may have a unique shape, not the usual rectangle. Using acrylic paints, I create lines and shapes that suggest fragments of objects and spaces. Some of my paintings have remnants of fabric like a piece of shirt (from a friend) attached. Words and numbers may be found in some of my work. These symbols have both personal and obscure meanings, like my age in days. The subjects of my paintings come from emotion, observation and experience.
