Life holds its many struggles, Frederick Douglass, African-American social reformer, writer, and statesman once said “If there is no struggle, there is no progress.” The philosophical idea behind my piece, Almost There is the triumphant feeling of that progress when you have almost emerged out of the darkness of your struggle. In every piece I produce, my goal is to put my emotion into it.
As primarily a painter, “Almost There” is a earnest representation of my life hardships as well as my struggle to understand a new medium for me, photography. I had an array of new obstacles in my life, I took comfort in the feeling of almost reaching the end of those obstacles. “Almost There” simultaneously became my visual reference and inspiration of that nearness I was headed for.
“Almost” There was taken with a DSLR camera in Los Angeles, California at the historic Union Station. The spur of the moment people running towards the light or the train station platform is credited to my older sister Anastasia Loza Nuanes and my little sister Isabella Loza. My hopes for this piece is that it will too inspire and comfort others through their own obstacles and hardships.
