Artist Statement
Mind Block represents my attempt to express how life is always moving, changing, and pulling us in different directions. I intend the curved lines and shapes to symbolize life flowing easily and the jagged ones to represent when life is more complicated. By blending some areas and defining the marks in others I hope to vary the amount of attention viewers give to different parts of the painting. In this way I aim to symbolize how our focus shifts depending on what we are drawn to and away from. Watercolor is a good medium for conveying these messages because the fluidity of the paint lends itself to making both soft and hard color and value transitions.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries. Artists can be visually expressive but may verbally misrepresent their true intentions or ideas. Please note that we support expression, whether it is controversial or not, but our intention is never to offend.
