Brett Andrus is a narrative figurative painter. Interweaving representational realism and emotive kinetic abstraction Andrus’s figures feel like they live partially in a dream, catching a moment right before something is about to happen. He seeks to connect with the viewer on a sensual and emotional level.
His intention is to set viewer in the role of both witness and voyeur- sharing a clandestine moment with the artist’s subjects. Influenced by Egon Schiele, Kent Williams, and Jenny Saville. Andrus uses his fascination with realism to find his contemporary voice within the constructs of the classical female form.
