Artist Statement
Through the contemplation of nature, D’Vane’s “Garden” captures the symphony, and sometimes cacophony, of a rock garden in springtime. The wispy, vibrant colors of wind-blown flowers are playful and whimsical against the stark and rigorous rocks. The “Garden” explores the tension between beautiful captive in a safe, controlled, but rigid environment and unyielding captor. The rock garden itself represents humankind’s quest for the divine, for perfection, but as with all his vain attempts, mans’ pitiful efforts ultimately fall short. Based on man’s folly, D’Vane’s kinetic art evokes a dialogue on humankind’s monochrome perception resulting from the moment of one’s encounter with the divine and how this can profoundly alter perception; the use of color is an exhilarating highlight of the chasm between celestial nature and humankind’s imperfect ability to recreate it.
