Our time and place in life is filled with many memories and moments. In that time, we have experiences that may last for just a few seconds, days, or maybe months or years. Whatever experiences they may be, they are finite and limited and leave us as quickly as we encounter them. Some are even forgotten and tucked away, never to be remembered again. However long or short those moments are, they live with us and are a part of us forever. I try to capture those experiences in life that we’ve forgotten. Whether they be memories of our children, loved ones, a beautiful sunset, or moments that pass us in our daily lives, I hope to capture them in my paintings. We all have these moments and for many of us, they become distant memories. Through my art, I bring those memories back and pause time by capturing them on my canvas so we can enjoy and reminisce what we’ve so long forgotten.
Through art, I am able to tell stories where words alone cannot. With a simple title and a finished piece, my art continues speaking where words fall short. It leaves more to the imagination and open to interpretation while granting a different experience for each individual. We’ve all experienced that moment taking family photos. It’s so difficult to get all of your children looking at the camera and smiling at once. Just trying for one smile is hard enough. Here, two brothers pose for a family photo. The younger brother is ready for his shot while the older one just isn’t quite there yet.
My choice of paint application is the airbrush with acrylic paint. The airbrush allows me to apply paint quickly, loosely or detailed, and paint unique patterns onto the canvas that combine to create the images I want. It’s versatile, allowing me to mix colors before spraying, or on the canvas. I’m able to paint on large canvas, which creates a sense of grandness that smaller paintings do not bring forth.
