Artist Statement
The pictures featured, represent a wonderful place in my evolution as a photographer and as a writer. Initially created as a way to evoke a memory or thought, perhaps even an emotion related to the mysterious subject, the photography progressed to a vehicle that might inspire creativity by the viewer.
Each image is presented as a starting point to a story that a person might invent and grow within their mind. The process, using a fully manual digital camera is simple, in fact it was accidental. In 2008, while visiting Washington DC’s great Portrait Museum I discovered the effects a chain link window shade would have on a G Street scene below.
It was beautiful, like a painting and somewhat dreamlike. In the end, the pictures are about individuals and individualism. They are about being alone or lonely. Mysterious and spooky characters along with unanswered questions resonate in all of them and in the end, they are about using your own imagination.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries. Artists can be visually expressive but may verbally misrepresent their true intentions or ideas. Please note that we support expression, whether it is controversial or not, but our intention is never to offend.
