Shoes In The Rain
Fine Art Photography
I was viewing a temporary memorial against the war in Iraq. Shoes were placed randomly to show the casualties of war – men, women, children, the innocent that get overlooked as “collateral damage”. I sat underneath a pavilion with people of all ages, genders and backgrounds. As I listened to the conversations, those for the war, those against, some who just didn’t understand why, it began to rain as the sun started to set.
War, bullets and bombs do not discriminate. Shoes are universal and shared across all cultures and regions. The power of the rain to renew, to wash away, to grieve added a deep poignancy and empty melancholy to the impressions left behind by the lives that once inhabited those shoes.
