Artist Statement
Trying to capture the special relationship between Vincent and Theo led me to the creation of this collage.
The exchange of letters between the brothers was constant and ongoing. It was key to Vincent’s dependence on Theo for financial and moral support. Vincent confides everything to Theo, down to what colors he will use in a painting.
Letters form the base of the work with reference to the room in Arles. Two male figures representing the brothers show how one supports the other. The large word on the right side is the Hebrew word for letters. This work was created for a group show, “Vincent” held at the Herzliya Art Gallery, curated by Shlomo Schwartz.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries. Artists can be visually expressive but may verbally misrepresent their true intentions or ideas. Please note that we support expression, whether it is controversial or not, but our intention is never to offend.
