Art Contests Accepted Artists
Wilmington, North Carolina USA
This old tractor is “unemployed” both because of it being unused during the winter months and also because small farms are becoming extinct in the US. The tractor shows signs of wear but has gone into decay, with a bent pipe and rust. The snow even shows weeds that have grown up around it. Winter in this context could be both a literal season and a metaphorical one.
When I paint manmade objects, I like the ones that have character and a history to them, rather than shiny new products. While painting this piece I enjoyed the challenge of painting snow using very little white and creating atmospheric perspective with actual snowfall. The colors were muted by the overcast lighting and much different than those of other seasons.
