Artist Statement
“Facie Minor” is part of a larger body of work in which I draw abstraction from the natural world. In this piece I found particular inspiration from the lines of Matisse and Picasso. The title is derived from the location, Minor White’s wall, on the central coast of Oregon. To my eye and mind, I see a strong chin, defined nose, and eye. It is a representation of White in my reality. It appears as a nurturing and ever academic profile, as his spirit guides other artists visiting this geologic wonder.
