Fine Art Photography
I grew up the son of an architect and was often around building sites and designs. I have always had an affinity for houses and buildings and as an artist I have found that often translates to my being drawn in by lines, shapes and spaces. The unique design of the Flatiron building in Manhattan offers both classic lines and seemingly liquid forms depending on one’s vantage point. It is an instantly recognizable facade even in a close up without seeing the building’s siting or context.
This photograph was taken from the northeast side of the building – the most photographed angle given the open space of Madison Square and the joining of 5th Avenue and Broadway – using a telephoto lens to capture the curves and motion the wedge shape of the building offers. My intent was not to capture something necessarily new, but to capture the familiar in a way that evokes a bigger memory to the viewer than what is seen in the image alone.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries. Artists can be visually expressive but may verbally misrepresent their true intentions or ideas. Please note that we support expression, whether it is controversial or not, but our intention is never to offend.
