Artist Statement
My visit to Yosemite Valley in spring of 2016 was filled with excitement. California had just come through winter with good Sierra snowfall after four long years of drought. The iconic waterfalls of Yosemite were in full majesty; with flow the best I’d seen since before the drought. I decided to spend part of my day hiking to the top of Upper Yosemite Falls to try to capture the essence of spring in the waterfalls and the landscape beyond. About three quarters of the way to the top of the falls, with the sounds of rushing water roaring in my ears, I looked upon Half Dome with the snowy High Sierra beyond, and felt that this view best captured early spring at Upper Yosemite Falls. I scrambled up off the trail to a hidden ledge and set up my tripod and camera. I adjusted the camera’s settings to underexpose the image so as not to “blow out” the sky that was filled with magically wispy clouds. The result is this image that pulls the viewer in to the iconic spring beauty of Yosemite.
My passion is spending time in the wilderness, appreciating nature’s bounty. My photography is one of the ways I share my passion with others. I aim for a pureness in my images, such that what you see is what I saw; this, in hopes that by viewing my images you may be taken to that place
