The Pursuit of Money
California has increasingly increased it’s tax burden on individuals and businesses. The Pursuit of Money uses iconic pop-art images of wealth and money to explore California’s cultural crossroads between Capitolism and Socialism. Uncle Pennybags, first introduced as a symbol of Capitolism during the release of the board game Monopoly during the Depression, is being chased out of California by the bear on the state flag. The bear represents the bear market conditions created in California. The blue field on the left hints at the design of the Texas State flag, where many California companies, and Californians, have relocated.
Kathleen Keifer uses many iconic pop art symbols from the world of games. In these evocative symbols from our history and childhoods, she creates images that explore our transformative relationships with ideas and memories.
Kathleen Keifer is a widely collected international artist in both private and corporate art collections. Keifer is known for her unique pop meets painterly style. Galleries all over the United States, and Toronto and London showcase her paintings. For a selected listing of private and public collections, please visit her website, www.kathleenkeifer.com
