Open Art Calls Accepted Artists
Bewildered was born after contemplating the idea of Compartmentalization. I’d often heard this topic described as a coping technique used by corporate workers to deal with the daily pressures of life. After various discussions about the validity of this statement the main question I pondered was “What is the classification of success in the modern first world?” Most people I spoke with appeared to be puzzled by what the answer should be. That is, they thought the correct answer was the amount of security one had gained through acquiring material possessions.
I began to think about how to express this theme in my artwork. Then gradually added layers of texture and colour onto a canvas to represent the areas of life a person attempts to separate using Compartmentalization to attain Security. Towards the end of development I melded the colours to represent the irony of this theme. This action was purposeful to demonstrate the thought that we can aim to separate areas in our lives, such as work and home, however when making decisions our subconscious is influenced by any resources available to drive us toward our version of success. Therefore Compartmentalization is a useful tool to trick the mind on the surface.
I’m an artist who utilizes experimentation as an important part of my creative process. My artworks are reflections of real life experiences. To develop an art piece I continuously meditate on an idea resulting from an event till a piece begins to take shape. This action continues until a painting with loud colours and layers of texture emerges.
