Artist Statement
These three delicate cups had once been part of an entire children’s tea set which had originally belonged to my grandmother. Sadly, all but what is depicted within this painting was terribly damaged soon before it was handed down to me.
Gradually, I began to see the fragmented beauty of what remained and to consider the damage as a part of life, to view the chips and fractures as an inevitable bruising of our own selves as we navigate through this complex world. Similarly, the perfect condition of the tiny, central cup symbolizes to me the sometimes surprising resilience of even the littlest and frailest of things.
I often select subjects with an inherent sense of fragility yet endurance. Conveying the timeless beauty of these delicate objects reminds me that this world is both permanent and ephemeral.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries. Artists can be visually expressive but may verbally misrepresent their true intentions or ideas. Please note that we support expression, whether it is controversial or not, but our intention is never to offend.
