Artist Statement
Through exploring the relationship between physics and photography I began to experiment with overexposing imagery. I found overexposing the scene creates voids and leaves fragments by playing and manipulating movement and light. The large white voids appear to carry no detail or information put still inform the viewer through the negative space by focusing on patterns and details. While shooting in busy urban areas the chaos is removed and fragments are left for one to piece together. The remnants of the scene create uncertainty and lead the mind to build a new story of the space. The title “Posturing” comes from how the image creates a sense of movement as well as the details in the upper corner that appear to reflect a ghostly face, forcing the question of what is seen or unseen, absent or present, fiction or truth.
