Artist Statement
Since the beginning I have always found safety in my work. My studio is my sanctuary. I would say that art has saved my life. Being able to express myself and be free, giving me a purpose. Answering questions of why am I here. My intention, when composing anything, is to convey this feeling of comfort and shelter to others. Around the time I started painting this Sunflower, I was sick. Not knowing what was happening to my body, there were times when I wanted to give up, but I pushed through. This painting is especially precious to me. It’s not just a painting, but a reminder of how important it is to keep going. Although I consider myself a portrait artist, I think of my flower paintings as portraits too. Plants grow and are very much alive, to me. Flowers in themselves have the capability to heal; powerful and delicate all on their own.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries. Artists can be visually expressive but may verbally misrepresent their true intentions or ideas. Please note that we support expression, whether it is controversial or not, but our intention is never to offend.
