If the meaning of baptism could be boiled down to one word, that word would be identification. Baptism speaks primarily of a personal, public identification that is to many individuals representational of a new beginning. According to most contemporary lexicons, the primary meaning is “to dip, plunge, immerse.” The secondary meaning is to “bring under the influence”. One can baptize themselves through the immersion of sensual stimuli that captivates and promotes a sense of rebirth.
In this piece entitled “Baptism”, my passion for expressing how a woman can come through the most horrific sequence of events to thrive in a “birthing” of self and self-discovery. The color variations of the water depict the calmness and peace in knowing and experiencing faith and believing in real hope.
