Open Art Calls Accepted Artists

At first glance, my painting “Nevermore” is a simple study of a seated man, Alan, with strong light and shadow on his face. My intention is somewhat deeper. As the viewer looks longer, I hope to impart a feeling of ambiguity causing a series of questions: What is the significance of the black bird? Is Alan aware of the bird? What’s going on here? Impending danger? Simple solitude? What?
My paintings of people and nature are rooted in the physical reality around me, frozen at a particular point in time. I want to encourage everyone to connect with the details of the unnoticed world around us and stop for a moment to be filled by the quiet beauty just waiting to be truly seen. I paint my subjects as I find them, while at the same time selectively editing reality and illuminating it so my paintings transcend realism and lead the viewer into a deeper experience.
