Artist Statement
Originally drawn to the art of fused glass by the riot of colors that can be achieved, a fascinated with expression without color has served as ballast. The combination of silk-screening with black enamel and fusing with clear and white glass give this already melancholy black and white photograph an added intensity that only fused glass can capture.
No statement of my artistic expression can be understood without an understanding of my personal journey. From my birth in 1944 in Kazakhstan, the child of holocaust survivors, I learned the lessons of survival and perseverance early and well. Through a series of professional careers, as a social worker, administrator and interior designer I was constantly pulled toward my love of glass art, and those deeply ingrained lessons of hard work and perseverance led to one last metamorphosis at age 61 – as a glass artist. Everything I have done since that time is a result and continuing expression of that metamorphosis.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries.
