Art Contests Accepted Artists
Artist Edward Hurd
Phoenix, Arizona USA
Sometimes inspiration comes from the oddest of places and things, such as in this case. This piece started off as a piece of orange rubber from a pile my dog made from a chewed up toy. The vibrant orange color, and rubber sponge like texture, got my attention. I held it up to the window light with a squinted eye and observed the slightly translucent properties. The edges seemed to glow. I wanted to capture it with a photograph. I placed the little half inch orange piece of rubber dog toy on the still life table covered with white seamless paper and set up a grid light aimed behind and took a few pictures. The images were interesting, but not something I would consider complete. They were placed in a folder on my computer where all the other experimental and “incomplete” images go. Months later I came across them again and imagined if how it would look with a Photoshop technique I use was applied. The end looked nothing like the original intention, but resulted in “Plastic Elastic”.
