Artist Statement
I use dogs in my work as an easily accessible means of expressing emotions, relationships or anything that we may be unable to express for ourselves. This painting is a portrait of unity; man, dog and nature. I wanted to approach it as a landscape; a kind of human landscape in unity with his constant companion.
This painting was created with no brushes or tools – just the oil pastels and my fingers. By rubbing and smearing the colors on to the paper, I was able to coax the figures and depth of the landscape from the oil pastels.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries. Artists can be visually expressive but may verbally misrepresent their true intentions or idea.
