Whilst walking through the apple orchards of Waterperry Gardens in Oxfordshire we came upon this relaxed and friendly cat, happy to pose amongst the apples. At the end of an inspiring weekend of philosophy, art and music, this affectionate and relaxed creature seemed to epitomize the blissful contentedness that we humans strive towards.
Painting on a wooden panel in oils allows for the fine detailed textures of fur and coarse grass. I loved the earthy colours in the markings of the tabby’s coat and the straw grass contrasted by the soft white fur about the face and ears and the bright green of the apples. I echoed the green very subtly in the cat’s eyes.
