Artist Daniel Diehl
Charleston, South Carolina USA
Toothy Grin is one of the most difficult and rewarding pieces I have created to date. I wanted to capture the subject with as much lifelike detail as possible, without the use of color and to create an image of beauty from a subject which is not often viewed as such.
To me, black and white imagery is the most effective and powerful way to express emotion or context in a work of art. It has a way of making us do more than just see an image but to actually experience it. It presents us with the realization that by removing the filters of color we are subjected to a cleaner and crisper version of the subject.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries. Artists can be visually expressive but may verbally misrepresent their true intentions or idea.
