Artist Statement
A zucchini plant is seen from the low, intimate perspective of the gardener at work. The translucent patterns, inspired by 17th century French bizarre textiles, are a conjecture about the unseen transportation and communication networks responsible for plant growth.
As a gardener and amateur naturalist, I enjoy reading the latest scientific theories that characterize microclimates as cities, with dynamic relationships between plants, insects, animals and weather. Some of these theories border on science fiction, as do the botanically based French “bizarre” textiles.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries. Artists can be visually expressive but may verbally misrepresent their true intentions or ideas. Please note that we support expression, whether it is controversial or not, but our intention is never to offend.
