Artist Statement
A single wooden match has had various references throughout my life. Learning to carefully build a fire and light it using only one match is a ritual I learned from my father. In this series it also symbolizes the human figure.
I have embedded this body of work with many other personal reference points, but have chosen not to reveal them via a title or statement in order to preserve interpretation by the viewer. I acknowledge the fact that once you release a work of art into the world it is no longer completely your own. It is certainly out of your control.
