Artist Statement
“Indigo Sacré Couer” is part of an on-going series that explores love and longing as it intersects with the divine. Thinking in color rather than words, I’ve claimed deep blues as the color of lovers to describe the abundance, turmoil, and magic of extravagant emotion.
I work in acrylics because vibrant color turns me on and oils give me a headache. With intention, some faith, and a fresh canvas on the floor, I spray, splash, and tilt the paint around before brushwork. My method and materials don’t allow for overthinking or revision. Moving swiftly in a dance with paint and water forces me to live in the moment. I like the rush. To achieve rich saturation, I apply multiple layers of color. Although it takes time, the result is a spontaneous look of movement, energy, and passion.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries. Artists can be visually expressive but may verbally misrepresent their true intentions or ideas. Please note that we support expression, whether it is controversial or not, but our intention is never to offend.
