Beauty of Spring
Watercolor and Ink
This is one of “Looking from Heaven Series” paintings done using my original “Heaven Style” painting method. The basic idea of this series is to use an overlook perspective, as if looking down from the sky. This could maximize the view of petals and leaves, thus enable them to express much more styles of lines and color-effects in the maximized view. The slender rectangular shape of the rice paper looks like a wide screen movie frame, this generates a very refresh feeling of the scene.
In the process of painting, I tried to generate good visual impacts by creating various contrasts among different styles of strokes, colors, etc. I incorporated both very refined and rough styles of lines in the same piece of work. For example, for the calamus petals, I drew meticulous detail lines. And I depicted the red flowers with more freehand style and rough strokes. This will create very sharp contrasts in the line styles. Also, the contrasts between the red and blue colors help sharpen the visual effects. Moreover, I tried to amplify many detailed parts such as the texture of leaves and bright yellow colors inside the calamus petals. In between the flowers, I added some freehand styles lines to express grass. The grass lines and petals dots help create more variability in strokes.
