Artist Statement
Out of the ethereal and ever-changing clouds emerges an ode to the sacred feminine: powerful, maternal, vulnerable, receiving.
I grew up in Santa Barbara and memories of playing in the surf are among my most cherished. And while my childhood self loved the bright exposure of mid-day frolicking, my mature adult side cannot take the UV hit of a summer’s day. But being near the ocean is still something that inspires me, especially at times of sunrise and sunset. The constantly changing colors make me happy. I can spend vast stretches of time watching the waves roll in.
When I get back to my studio after travels, I have an array of inspiring photos to play with. The sky and surf images are not necessarily from the same photo shoot. But they are both carefully chosen to use in tandem with the other. I manipulate each though mirrors constructed from mathematical algorithms, utilizing fractal space and polar geometry.
