Artist Statement
It’s hard to hide, even in the microcosm of a city. Maybe a chance meeting, a longtime admirer, or an imaginary encounter, Men and Women heading to their intended location, some with secrets. I started painting flowers and animals when I was five. They were very realistic and the perspective was very good for such a young artist. My first canvas was the thrown out cardboard from my father’s starched white dress shirts. I remember it so well. The blue on my Hydrangea’s glowed on that cardboard. I love color, pattern, texture, graphics and the play between color and shapes. I paint large abstracts full of energy and intensity. I also create small pen and ink drawings with watercolors, abstract figuratives and paper sculptures…and, of course, those blue hydrangeas.
