Artist Statement
Still life consisting of fruits and vegetables in bowls and on plates are my subject. I love to eat tomatoes and the abundance of local produce at farm stands. And I love the summer. Especially because I live in Boston, summer vegetables and fruits create excitement for me-the shapes and colors, the potential meals, the community that follows are the promise in the paintings. Cartons of tomatoes in August– particularly with the anticipation of fresh salads, are thrilling. Using a transparent watercolor palette in my still life paintings of brightly-lit fruits and vegetables, I try to evoke the pleasure of food, kitchens, meals, community and peacefulness.
