Artist Statement
Do you ever remember having a flailing arm moment, when you wanted to twirl and dance? I hope you have. Did it happen when accomplishing something you never thought you could or perhaps when given something you never expected? And how like an artist to ask “so what do you think something like this would look like?” For me, its this painting. I think the juxtaposition of turquoise and orange concretely demonstrates a super high.
In its infancy, I referred to this painting as my screaming peacock, while falling in love with its brashness. But the attraction came slowly while I used up to 15 layers of acrylic paint and gel medium to lay a foundation for its final climax of color. Could this image be a metaphor for our own ground breaking moments? Do they just explode on the scene unexpected, or are they buttressed by thought, energy, time? Fire and Ice was painted with all three of these elements and finished with great vigor. For this artist, its completion was an incredible moment. The best praise I could receive from a viewer would be “Wow”.
