Artist Statement
My sculptures show the story of my life. “Between Worlds” is a sculpture about life and death. It is the result of conversations had with my daughter, after the loss of key family members. This narrative piece is a physical representation of the issues and experiences I have as an artist and a mother.
I use figurative and animistic forms to tell these stories, because they are so potent, versatile, and recognizable. I tend to think of them as my Power Animals or even Guardians. I create these sculptures out of clay because I feel like the energy of the sculpture just flows from my hands into the soft clay as I wedge and form the piece.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries. Artists can be visually expressive but may verbally misrepresent their true intentions or ideas. Please note that we support expression, whether it is controversial or not, but our intention is never to offend.
