A Lonely Cloud of Methane Gas
Fine Art Photography
The terrain of our neighboring planets serves as a hypothetical landscape for what Earth used to be, could have been, or might become. Alien Landscapes is a photographic series of fabricated planetary environments which create prophetic possibilities of other extraterrestrial realities.
Based on data gathered from rovers, satellites, telescopes, and scientists, I recreate these landscapes through constructed photography. I use organic materials and in-camera effects to fabricate miniature designs of planet terrains in our solar system. Viewers are presented with fictional possibilities, based on actual scientific data, of places we know exist but have not yet seen.
Neptune is composed mostly of hydrogen, helium & methane resulting in a blue color, with gas clouds & beach ball sized methane gas bubbles. I used a cinematic effects technique: the “Cloud Tank”. I filled a water tank with half salt water & half with freshwater to create two different density layers. Condensed milk is squirted between the two densities, resulting in a suspended cloud.
