Artist Calls Accepted Artists
Los Angeles, California USA
Los Angeles based artist Jenie Eitel grew up on the small island of Kauai, Hawaii, where she studied fine art from a young age. Inspired by her mother’s watercolor paintings of native Hawaiian flowers, Jenie’s non-representational abstraction “Elemental” is reminiscent of the vibrant landscapes of her childhood home.
Jenie uses a type of “wet-on-wet” or alla prima technique, in which movement and depth are created as one color is pulled through another. Her technique exploits the potential for fluid energy in application, but requires a certain finesse in embracing unpredictability.
Layer upon layer of vibrant colored acrylics transform the canvas into a tapestry of colorful nuances and textural complexities. Hung at any angle desired, viewers are given room to construct their own narratives. To avoid making any absolute conclusion about the piece, Jenie has named the painting vaguely, allowing the piece to retain its changeability and continual power inform.
