My artwork often explores a love of place or time. London has long been a favored destination of mine, and in Phonebooth I sought to capture the essence of the place. The London phone booth is an iconic, timeless image of the city, and i use it as a starting point to explore the feeling of the place. The panels feature images of ravens superimposed over excerpts from London Fields, a book by the British writer Martin Amis. The raven is a historic image of the city, and the nature of the black bird is emblematic of the communicative nature of the phone booth, and it’s role tying society together. The screen is back lit with a cloth covered pendant lamp, suspended from another of the iconic images of the city, the black umbrella. Taken as whole Phonebooth is a loving homage to one of my favorite places, and an important corner of my world.
