I am influenced by Post War, Mid-century architecture and abstract art from about 1940 through the early 1960’s. I am a modernist, color field, hard edge, abstract painter. The focus of my work is meticulously planned and deployed geometrics. A deep fascination with the very concept of modernism inspires me. I create with acrylic paint applied in many layers, often with large amounts of added textures, manipulated with brushes, rollers, pallet knives, kitchen tools or by hand. The majority of my pieces are simply about the interactions of color and texture. “Hanging in a Delicate Balance” from my “Patterns” series confronts the viewer with a series of notched bars and lines bursting with buzzing color combinations and teasing the mind into a state of spontaneous joy. Each person viewing my work will take away something a little different from the same picture, and I’m happy with that.
