Artist Statement
The fossilized Megalodon tooth once belonged to a monster-size shark that roamed the ocean 15 million years ago. Its jaws could open up to 16 feet across. I painted this tooth actual size: at 7- high, it is large enough to be a lethal weapon of war, as indeed some past cultures used these teeth for. My aim is to create a connection between the ancient animals and humans, as well as to offer a moment to reflect on the beauty of nature and issues of ecology connected to the ocean.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries. Artists can be visually expressive but may verbally misrepresent their true intentions or ideas. Please note that we support expression, whether it is controversial or not, but our intention is never to offend.
