Who is she? Where is she looking? These things dont matter really. Objectified as my center of the piece, she and her whole being is whats important, not her name and what her business is. Black and white, I feel there’s something romantic about the two together. I really like film noir.
The shapes I painted around her represent, well many things. It can be her movement, it can be the reaction to the air that holds her frame. A message from the elements, a massage from the elements. I paint these honestly, for the audience to interpret. I left the background white and some parts of it untouched. I feel its creats balance with the figure.
There is something so pure to me about raw exposed canvas. I suppose I enjoy its vulnerability. Open to get scorned, touched up, or left alone. Just like our soul.
