Home life is part of the human experience we all share. Whether it is the relationships we have with members of our family, the domestic space we live in, or the routines and behaviors we carry out, home life is often what defines us. It is this complex experience that fuels my ceramic sculpture.
I create amalgamations of domestic objects that ask questions about the choices women make regarding our role within the home. These objects are combined with ceramic sex toys since they stand in opposition to the traditional roles within the home. The sex toy suggests an independence for women. Having the ability to self satisfy women are not dependent on a partner for sexual pleasure.
I am interested in critically examining the expectation that women are to perform certain roles within the home. While these pieces do not necessarily give a solution or reflect a personal decision regarding my choices, they instead reflect an unfolding of choices and address the frustration and anxiety that is coupled with that decision.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries. Artists can be visually expressive but may verbally misrepresent their true intentions or ideas. Please note that we support expression, whether it is controversial or not, but our intention is never to offend.
