Artist Statement
Resurrection depicts a shallow riverbed containing a dead, tree shadowed by an overlying leafy tree growing beside the river. This juxtaposition of the living tree and one that was previously living reminds us of the often close proximity of distinct phases of the cycle of life – vibrant forms adjacent to skeletons of former selves.
I am fascinated by the natural world around us and how, if we look closely enough, we can more strongly sense both its beauty and its harshness. My camera lens allows me to explore, embrace, and deeply experience our emotional connection with nature. Using solely natural light and a shallow depth of field, my work seeks to emphasis the mood of natural microhabitats.
What I most want people to take away from my photographic work is to have sensed one small slice of their environment in a new way, to see something they have not experienced before in quite the same way. Resurrection leads us to the intersection of despair and hope, where new life overshadows but does not expunge past woes.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries. Artists can be visually expressive but may verbally misrepresent their true intentions or ideas. Please note that we support expression, whether it is controversial or not, but our intention is never to offend.
