This painting was created for a book a friend was producing that focused on the changes faced by life-long residents of the small community in which I live. Jerry Jordan was a carpenter by trade but he is most passionate about hunting. He was a very soft-spoken fellow and although he was a good sport, he really didn’t offer much when it came to posing. After many meetings and discussions, I feared I would never get a suitable pose. Finally, I found something which seemed to represent him well: proud and strong but also quiet and just a little shy.
I was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and have lived most of my life in Toronto. I have a degree in Film Studies from Queen’s University but now direct all of my creative energy toward painting. Since moving to a farm near Creemore in 1998, I have spent many years exploring the surrounding landscape — and the ever-changing human relationship with landscape.
