I was born in Peru but grew up in Southern California. My love and appreciation for art comes from my grandfather who is a well known poet and artist in his own country of Peru. I loved going to art galleries with him, and watched him paint on canvas. I’ve always loved drawing and painting, but it was my love for photography that intrigued me, especially after my dad bought me my first real camera, a Pentax K1000. I took a couple of photography classes in college to learn darkroom developing and black & white photography.
Photography became more of a hobby for me than anything else and I didn’t pursue with it much further than that. Then came the digital phase; Adobe Photoshopping, the internet, digital cameras, and then photography was a whole new craze. My husband taught me the basics of photoshopping and I took it from there, with years of playing with the software and teaching myself.
Though I love the art of photography & taking pictures, I felt my images were lacking something more. I saw my images no different than anyone else with a digital camera and photo software. Some months ago while looking through Flickr, a photo sharing website, I came across some amazing photos created by several incredibly talented photographers, and it was then that my eyes opened again and I felt my calling. Photos that looked like paintings of an unearthly world and so surreal and beautiful. It was a glimpse into a wonderland that inspired me,….and I knew then this is what I was lacking in my images. It’s as if I took pictures in my dream and uploaded them on my computer.
