Art Collecting Nature Speaks Call for Entries Accepted Artists Artist John Sollinger Ashland, Oregon, USA Old Growth Glass Artist Statement This work represents my impression of an organic scene. A muse inspired me to depict often ignored life forms, and a devil demanded chaos and abstraction to challenge the viewers’ perceptions. For many, the phrase “old growth” conjures images of ancient and huge trees. However, a large variety of unrecognized or otherwise ignored life forms compose the forest community. Inspiration came from my chance encounter with the base of a large Western Red cedar tree, adorned with lichens and moss. The views expressed byRead More →

Artist Calls Nature Speaks Artist Calls Accepted Artists Artist Bill Hornaday Los Angeles, California, USA Aqua Terra 20 Fine Art Photography Artist Statement My photography and mixed media art has concentrated on the reflections of light and color to create abstractions of nature, and using these abstractions to photographically “paint” a picture through the lens. It is important to see only the reflection, not what is being reflected and leaving the link purely to imagination. The dialectic between nature and its reflections creates a tension to affect the viewer. While my results are firmly in the directions of “Modern Art,” I also draw fromRead More →

Gestures & Facial Expressions Call for Entries Accepted Artists Artist Stanislav Groz San Francisco, California, USA In my opinion Oil Painting Artist Statement That is a collective portrait of a one who personally does not do anything, does not create or destroy. Gestures & Facial Expressions Call for Artists Accepted Entries Artist Stanislav Groz San Francisco, California, USA Spectator Oil Painting Artist Statement Inexperienced viewer is thinking in terms of disclosures. He tends to comparisons, and his images, reflections are blurred. But an experienced viewer is, to a certain degree, an actor himself. He has genuine emotions and pure reflections, which is the same what the actors are trying to achieve when performing on stage. This picture is covered with gold paper on fresh paint for a magical effect. Pasadena Art Galleries The views expressed by our artists in theirRead More →
Gestures & Facial Expressions Call for Entries Accepted Artists Artist Peter Maeck Lexington, Massachusetts, USA Woman On A Bus Photography Artist Statement This woman is riding in a public bus. While in transit her time is either rushing forward or suspending itself. She may be staring at her own reflection in the window or gazing out at us. The bus’s implied movement contrasts with the camera’s fixed position on the sidewalk and so, by Einstein’s rules of time dilation, the woman and the photographer are aging at a different rate. In addition to being a photographer I am a writer. I couldRead More →

Miniatures Call for Artists Accepted Entries Artist Giordano Angeletti Savannah, Georgia, USA Ordinary Vistas #17 Photography Artist Statement The work explores the language of scale within photography. The subjects of the photographs are scaled down models that represent ordinary objects. They are ingrained in our memory and our experience therefore we comfortably accept them. Yet, the imperfections and manufacturing flaws of the miniatures’ distance them from the “real.” While each of the objects in these images is not exactly as we remember them they are easy to read. Miniatures Call for Artists Accepted Entries Artist John Gialanella Flagstaff, Arizona, USA Two of Hearts Mixed Media Artist Statement Ephemeral images are collected, deconstructed and reassembled, in order to remove the subject from its original context in order to construct a new narrative. Disparate images from the past elicit a certain nostalgic response, a disconnected familiarity for the viewer. The uncertain, yet seemingly common, is meant to draw the onlooker into the work, until the subjects themselves, in their new orientation, begin to dictate a prevailing story. The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarilyRead More →
Miniatures Call for Artists Accepted Entries Artist Michael Petrovitch San Gabriel, California, USA Arrival Mixed Media Artist Statement Life. Filled with color and energy, life is always in motion. Our lives are the products of a series of choices we make. In my paintings I strive to capture life. Choices made in the past cannot be undone, and so I incorporate this idea into my pieces. When I begin a piece I continue to make choices on paint application and composition until the work is finished. Any mistakes made along the way are not remedied, but rather they are accepted as IRead More →
Miniatures Call for Entries Accepted Artists Artist Kathryn Hunkele Phoenix, Arizona, USA If you only looked… Photography Artist Statement I set out to do a series on what it’s like to feel small and inconsequential in a big city. As my work tends to fall towards the ridiculous, a serious project became a little more absurd. While the images created are clearly fictive, I feel as though the subjects still have the power to appeal to the empathetic nature of the audience. The ability to manipulate how the world is seen is one of my favorite characteristics of photography. To be able to shiftRead More →

This is done through the incorporation of the human mouth. Miniatures Call for Artists Accepted Entries Artist Christina Preiss Valley Center, California, USA Helping Hand Photography Artist Statement A lot of my miniature photography doesn’t have intense or deep meaning. I enjoy seeing life in a humorous way and being playful with my work. However, some of my beliefs and passions are naturally revealed through my images. I thought that it would be funny if there was a little man whose only job was to maintain the hairs. The views expressed by ourRead More →
Miniatures Call for Entries Accepted Artists Artist Christina Preiss Valley Center, California, USA Just Working In The Greenhouse Photography Artist Statement A primary aim of my miniature photography is to have the viewer stop and engage in the present moment. The present moment is really all we have, but people are often lost in past memories or future anxieties. However, seeing tiny people actively participating in our “super-sized” world, makes the viewer take a second look. The image plays with their perception. This image portrays people working in our greenhouse. I am so lucky to have a boyfriend whose “man cave” is aRead More →
