Artist Marcus Alexander
Los Angeles, California, USA
Marcus Alexander works with a colorful palette of oil or acrylic paint. The figures in his paintings are tall, thin, and desaturated, drained and consumed by their mask. Other subjects are fragmented by color and form. They are being pulled apart as a visual representation of the constant change and inconsistency in their identity.
Marcus’s primary focus is on identity and the several mask we wear through out our lives. In an age where we spend most of our time online we have the freedom to be seen as being whom ever we want.
We are fierce, colorful, comical and sometimes scary. It is difficult to strip away the mask that we have become so comfortable wearing and it is this conflict that is at the heart of Marcus Alexander’s work.
