Silent Communication Art Show Artist Portraits Los Angeles fine art photographer, Linnea Lenkus, uses her curatorial expertise to bring together a diverse collection of artists to show at our contemporary art gallery. Her selection of artists is narrowed down to artwork that pushes boundaries and leaves a lasting impression. As our last 2013 art show, Lenkus presented “Silent Communication”. As part of the artists participation, they were also photographed by Lenkus in a one-on-one portrait photography session. Artist Portrait Series | Bill Hornaday

Art Gallery Silent Communication Artist Portraits   Photographed by Linnea Lenkus, photography and mixed media artist Bill Hornaday, wowed with his artwork accepted for “Silent Communication”. His fine art photography Aqua Terra 20, colorfully lit up the collection at our contemporary art gallery. This piece plays with elements of light, color, and reflection in order to fully grasp the beauty found in nature. As you stare into his photograph, it is possible to get lost in the ripples of color as they transform from real objects to abstract figures. In conjunction with our recent live art show, Los Angeles fine art photographer and curator at Linus Galleries,Read More →

Artist Portrait Series | Tina Dille

Silent Communication Artist Portraits   Watercolor artist, Tina Dille, was selected to be part of our most recent art show “Silent Communication”. During the opening reception at our contemporary art gallery, she intrigued viewers with a live art demonstration. In addition to participating in the show, Dille had an artist portrait photography session with Linnea Lenkus. The spontaneity of her watercolor technique results in colorful layered renditions of what she most enjoys as a subject, animals. Her watercolor entitled Geo Colt, demonstrates her unique process; although contained within the outline of a horse’s head, the fluidity of the medium is seen throughout, creating a mosaic-like appearance.Read More →

Artist Portrait Series | Peter Maeck

Silent Communication Artist Portrait Photography   Being a writer and photographer gives Peter Maeck the advantage of understanding the power of telling a story, either through elaborate wording or a photograph. For his artist portrait photography session with Lenkus, his portraits truly reflect the artistic individual he is. For our “Silent Communication” art show, his photograph Woman On A Bus, shows a woman in a public bus resting her chin on her palm as she stares out the window. Although we aren’t sure about what she’s staring at, Maeck captured her right at the moment when her sight is directed towards the camera. As the lightRead More →

Artist Portrait Series | Larry Reinhart

Art Gallery Silent Communication Artists   Larry Reinhart was one of the incredible artists who participated in our last 2013 art gallery show “Silent Communication”. His interest in how nature speaks to us is reflected in his oil painting The Majestic Beast. He emphasizes the size of an elephant, an already monumental animal, by rendering it much more larger than what it really is. Its displacement of no longer being in its natural habitat creates a tense chaotic environment. For this reason there is an uncertainty, as immense as the elephant, of what may come about from this human and animal interference. Los Angeles fineRead More →

Artist Portrait Series | Stanislav Groz

Silent Communication Artist Portrait Photography Stanislav Groz had the pleasure to work with Lenkus in a one on one portrait photography session for her Artist Portrait Series. For “Silent Communication”, the artist submitted oil paintings depicting overly expressive subjects. His artwork In My Opinion, is about an individual who although does not partake in anything, he seems to always have an opinion that needs to be shared. As his expressive eyes critically stare off, we can’t help but wonder what it is that he’s about to comment on. The blotchy composition of the figure contrasts beautifully against the black background, almost as though a light is shining right aboveRead More →

Silent Communication Artist Portraits   We at Linus Galleries value the way an artist expresses themselves about their artwork. It gives us an idea of what their process is and what they’d like to accomplish as an artist. Fine art photographer and curator here at Linus, Linnea Lenkus, kept this in mind as she selected participants of our “Silent Communication” art show for her Artist Portrait Series. By encouraging them to show their personality in front of the camera, the final artist portrait is meant to compliment their artist statement. Art Show Silent Communication Portraits Participant of our most recent art show, artist Gabriella Sanchez was selected by Lenkus to also be a part of her Artist Portrait Series. For the “Silent Communication” art exhibit, Sanchez submitted her contemporary photography, revolving around human nature and the role of women in society. Displayed at our Pasadena art gallery, her photograph Staged, shows three representational images of a woman’s lips. The vibrant red mouth goes from being a symbol of sensuality to a more physical state, a stage for which a miniature chair is placed on. Artist Portrait Series | Liza Epps

Art Gallery Silent Communication Portraits For our last 2013 art gallery show, “Silent Communication”, Liza Epps was one of the various artists chosen to present work at our Pasadena contemporary art gallery. Her oil painting Nagao, is part of her painting series depicting kitchen scenes. Driven by satisfaction, it is possible we often overlook those who make it possible to satisfy our food consumption. By portraying the chefs at a sushi bar, with the sushi no where to be seen, the audience has no other choice but to look past the array of food and instead, at those who patiently anticipate a crowd of hungry customers.Read More →

Artist Portrait Series | Doug Lawler

Silent Communication Artist Portraits As one of the selected artists for the show, Doug Lawler, presented beautiful pieces done by dry point printmaking and painted with his fingers. Through his methods, Lawler accomplishes renditions enhanced by bursts of color and attention to detail. The incredible artwork, Storm with Dog implies the chaotic movement of a storm while a dog attempts to stay grounded and safe. Painting this piece with his fingers, only enhances how incredible the intensity of color and depth. “The ongoing theme of my work is “connections”, from beasts and their shadows to nature and it’s passionate beauty. For the “Silent Communication” art show, Cholakian displayed his piece Self Portrait, which was also chosen as the curator’s choice for the exhibit. Artist Portrait Series | Paul Daniels

Portrait photography is powerful enough to tell us so much about a person. For Linus Galleries’ “It’s Only Natural” art show, Paul Daniels centered his portraits Lebron James “The King” and Kobe Bryant “Mamba”, on athletes who are stripped of their fame and status; these men are no longer depicted as athlete-gods, instead as relatable mortals. What Daniels does to his subjects in paintings, curator at Linus Galleries Linnea Lenkus, does to artists with portrait photography. She strives to expose a side rarely seen, a side that enhances the reasoning behind their art. Artist Portrait Series | Rachel Edwards

Sometime or another we all think about or question our own identity. Rachel Edwards explores identity with her artworks entitled Creation/Destruction and Blender, found in the “It’s Only Natural” art exhibit. These renditions put on view the many emotions entailed within a struggle to establish one’s identity and accept it. Taking into consideration this profound theme, fine art photographer Linnea Lenkus pairs the artist’s statement with sophisticated portraits of Edwards. Curator at Linus Galleries, Linnea Lenkus, strives to expose the mindset of artists that can further interpret their artistic message for an art exhibit. As a fine art photographer, her portrait fascination demonstrates how dedicatedRead More →

In this series of artist portraits, Linus Galleries curator Linnea Lenkus photographs Romoff and enlivens the artist’s statement about the thought process behind her art. We, at Linus Art Galleries, value an artist’s ability to visually and aesthetically interpret their thoughts to viewers at an art gallery. Jana Charl does this through her paintings Vessel Triptych I and Red Vessel Grid for the “It’s Only Natural” art gallery show. Through simplified forms, Charl captures the essence of the female body and brings about the many perceptions it encompasses. Artist Portrait Series | Leroy Lee

For us, Linus Art Galleries, the artist’s message is important.  We feel that in order to really connect the viewer to an artwork or an artist, there needs to be communication.  An artwork must be understood.  Likewise, an artist’s position and philosophy must be known to create a solid relationship between the viewer and the artist. This is why we not only encourage (okay, require) artists to write up an artist’s statement, but also  why we encourage locals to visit us.  We love to hear what they have to say about their artwork and their art in general!
