Artist Statement
As an artist I have always felt more connected to the lives of animals, plants, and insects than to the world of skyscrapers, tarmac roads, and computers. I feel that on some deeper level the natural world reflects the raw nature of man, and can be used as a key to understanding our most basic reasons for existence.
With this foundation in the natural world my work also extends into the imaginary. I intertwine my images with environments often taken from my dreams and day-dreams. While creating these pieces I usually do not understand the meaning of the piece right away, and sometimes the intention changes midway through the creation of the piece. In this way I approach each of my pieces like an explorer, starting off at one point down a road and not quite sure where it will end. The size of my pieces reflects this idea inasmuch as large pieces are overwhelming- like the beginning of a long journey. In most cases, my work comes to reflect an emotional state at the time I create it. The animals and their dream-like environments become reflections of my own inner thought process.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries. Artists can be visually expressive but may verbally misrepresent their true intentions or ideas. Please note that we support expression, whether it is controversial or not, but our intention is never to offend.
